Air gap sensors measure the distance between rotor and stator in generators, gearless mill drives, wind turbines and large electric motors. The sensors consist of a sensor, a connecting cable and a remote measuring amplifier. As an output signal, the sensors provide a voltage or current signal proportional to the air gap in “mm”. AVIBIA supplies air gap sensors with a measuring range between 2 – 65 mm air gap. The measuring principle is based on the capacitive effect. Air gap sensors are glued to the stator sheet metal package.
